Holland House, in Philipsburg, Sint Maarten, the place everyone is staying for business or pleasure. Located on the beach in the middle of Great Bay and font street.

Did you know that Paul Melskens, the general manager of the hotel is also a fine sommelier.

Last time I was there we had a nice time in the cellar and end up tasting the following wines:

Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2015: High quality Sauvignon blanc, popular and recognized worldwide. Powerful but at the same time easy drinking with lots of flavors. This wine belongs to the top of Marlborough. Try also the Te KoKo sauvignon blanc this is the prestige sauvignon blanc from the house of Cloudy Bay.

Gruner Veltliner from Huber Vintage 2014. This wine from Traisental is a great partner for lunch, aromas of refreshing citrus, easy with every dish.. Gruner Veltliner is the flagship wine form Austria.

Paul appreciate a good glass of wine and even more to share a glass with others. His favorite wine areas/wines:

  • Tuscany: a Brunello di montalcino is always good, recently had a good one from Castello Banfi, Vintage 2010.
  • Marlborough: Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand such as Cloudy Bay or Kim Crawford are very refreshing and pleasant drinking wines.
  • California: An older cabernet sauvignon from Napa or Sonoma
  • Umbria Italy a chardonnay from the house of antinori out of the Umbria, great chardonnay named “ Cevaro Della Sala

Thanks a lot Paul, will be happy to see you again very soon
