Machu Picchu the dream comes true!!!!
Hanging on the wall of my room, I had a huge framed map of the world, heritage from my Grandfather Gratien, the one who inspired me with his travels and gave me the taste of traveling and meeting people. I was 13, just came back from my first trip abroad alone in Goteborg, Sweden. I was so excited that I started to pin on the map the places I wanted to visit. Many were the results of my geography classes, pictures of amazing scenery, tales from my Grandfather, books, souvenirs, articles from Geo magazines, unreal destinations, too far, too beautiful to be true. I was already traveling in my dreams, most of the time in class…..Since then I decided to travel everywhere I pinned on the map. I started with Europe, the EU, it was 12 countries at that time….
In 2001, I turned 30 and it was time to leave the old continent and to start a new adventure. I moved to Barbados and started to explore and discover the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, the Pacto Andino and South America. France and Europe started to look very small from my new perspectives and knowledge of this part of the world. The French wines were not my favorite anymore, and spicy food became a part of me.
At 35, I moved to Panama, 40 to Miami, 45…….
Machu Pichu was one of those dreams. This stunning Inca city is situated at 2,430 metres above sea level, in the middle of a tropical mountain forest, in an extraordinarily beautiful setting. Giant walls, terraces and ramps seem as if they have always been part of the mountain. The natural setting, this beautiful scenery lost in the middle of nowhere in the Andes always fascinated me. During my last trip to Peru, I finally realized my dream and added a new pin to my world map. Breathtaking, a must see. In and out from Lima on Saturday morning and returning Sunday afternoon, with a connecting flight to Miami. Easy and so worthwhile.
