I’m sure you all understand now that this blog is all about what I have not been able to say or share with my kids about my travels during those past 15 years. Sometimes it is difficult to describe, explain or relate to your kids, friends and family what you are doing without creating a kind of a misunderstanding or uncomfortable situation, almost jealousy. Some of you will think that I’m happier traveling than being with you, kids, friends and family. Your first reaction is always: “you are so lucky!! I wish I could do it”. Please be my guest !! Sad enough I finally gave up and shut up. No more stories. Time past….
With this personal blog, You all understood that It is time for me now to share with you all my experiences, the beautiful things I saw or the amazing people I met. It is not easy to travel an average of 150,000 miles per year, it is work , not pleasure. I will share soon what it is to travel so many miles with AA, coach, chicken or pasta….You get it 🙂
Ecuador, the line 0, 0 , 0. 0 degrees latitude, 0 minutes, 0 seconds. The half of the world, that mythic line that separate the North hemisphere from the South hemisphere. Please don’t kill the messenger, but in fact the real Equator line is about 800 ft North of that famous touristic yellow line :), funny enough to be that close….
About 10 years ago I met someone who became, due to a kind of a strange experience we shared, and beside of a great friendship and work relationship, a dear friend of mine, mi hermanito.
From Guayaquil (sea level) where we met for a meeting we drove to Cuenca (2,500m, 8,370ft) via the National Park of Las Cajas (4,310m, 13,550 ft). On our way we stopped along the road and tasted all kind of fruits, dried cacao….too many…I will pass on all the details: restaurant closed all the way, the security park guard heavy armed and their guardhouse without toilet, I had to stop in the bush at 4,310m+ to be at peace….Story that my friend never stopped telling to everyone…We are still laughing about this moment today when we meet.
Quito is an Amazing city, Spanish colonial heritage, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Patrimony since 1978 (one of the first city to get that status), it is the beautiful Capital of Ecuador. Founded in the 16th century, at 2,850 meter altitude. Road are paved, up and down with incredibly nice churches in almost every corner. By night it is even nicer, very well lighted it gives to the visit another charm. A must visit
